Springfield, Ill (WICS/WRSP) — With the winter season approaching, it’s important to grab a coat, hat and gloves to stay warm.
Springfield-based Inner City Mission is hoping they’ll be able to rack up donations of hundreds of coats, gloves and hat to provide to the homeless.
The organization currently owns two separate houses and it provides shelter to over 50 people, mostly including single parents and their children. The organization doesn’t utilize government funding and rely on private donations. They’re hoping to provide people with enough clothing this winter season.
“As it gets really cold, a lot of these families don’t have a ton of clothing,” Isaac Payne said of Inner City Mission said. “Usually when they move in with us, they have whatever is on their back is really what they have as a possession.”
While the organization looks to help the people who stay at their shelter, Payne says they will also help out other homeless people who view them as a local resource.
Hats and coats are the only thing they need, though. Payne says they also accept donations such as shampoo and toothpaste to help daily lives.
